Reminiscence

'

Top: Custom Made; Skirt: Styldrv for Spring Break; Sunglasses: Charles & Keith; Shoes: Zara;

It might be that the holidays are drawing nearer, or that flu season makes me long for my green sea weed soup, but for whatever reason I have been feeling a sense of nostalgia of my childhood. And this nostalgia has been inspiring some of my clothing choices in an interesting way at the moment. If I dig deeper to my childhood fashion memories, it’s easy that I am recalling dungarees, cute skirts, mini dresses, petite accessories, colourful outfits, and just more cute things we would wear as a child. I ditched bows back in high school, as they usually look a bit too cupcakey sweet for my age as well as taste. Yet lately, I am completely drawn to elements of these pieces in my wardrobe-just a touch here and there. Celebrities also have been on the “little girl fashion” boat for years. Blair Waldorf made bows cool back in 2007, and Lady Gaga brought some edginess to the trend by making her bow out of hair in 2009. I don’t really recommend showing up to work decked out in pink and bows, or wearing overalls on a date, but I do think there are cute, fashion forward ways to bring the childhood inspiration to your outfits.

When I put this outfit together, I got a reminiscence of how my mother used to dress me if we had somewhere fancy to go. The version I had back in those days would probably include puffy sleeves and a scalloped hemline with stocking and ballet shoes. Cute right? And here is this grown up version without all those bells and whistles where I am wearing this ensemble inspired by my childhood, just modified it by popping those sunglasses and a hair updo with bold lips.

So the next time you're browsing through your old photos and looking for a perfect #tbt, don't forget that your childhood self actually had some serious style credibility, you just need to modify it here and there and you're all set to go :)

My Haircare Routine

Picture Courtesy: Jaina Kumar

So I wanted to do a quick little post about my hair routine, since I've been getting so many emails and inboxes about what I do to maintain my long hair.

1. To keep my hair healthy I normally wash it not more than 3 times a week. I find that excessive washing makes my hair really dry, regardless of the products I use. When I do wash my hair, I always make sure to apply shampoo only to the scalp and never to the ends of my hair, which tend to be somewhat dry. I usually just work the shampoo gently down the ends of the hair, making sure not to scrub, which can lead to breakage or knots.

2. Unless I am short for time, I skip blowdrying completely, and just let my hair air dry. Pretty sure, you’ll be surprised how much healthier your hair looks and feels if you skip the blowdryer a few times a week. I know I certainly was, and overtime definitely saw a lot less split ends. I also like to apply L'oreal Techni Art's spiral splendour texturizing protein cream to prevent split ends and keep my hair from getting too dry.

3. Every night,I brush my hair for at least 8-12 minutes and braid them up before bed. This helps me to get those natural curls in the morning effortlessly. Combing hair regularly helps to improve circulation and keeps scalp healthy. The importance of brushing hair daily, is something I learned from my mother, who always had the most beautiful, long hair. So, I make sure to follow her advice:)

4. With every second person worried for dry hair, hair fall and thin hair, hair spa is more essential than ever. I go for a Hair spa once in every two months. This does not only  nourish my hair but also enriches them, making them stronger, helps as well as regaining the shine and the length.

This is the first time I am sharing my  haircare routine with you guys, hope it helps. I'll be blogging about the various hair products I use as well as how to take care of your hair depending on your hair type very soon :)

Heart Or Head?

Have you ever thought about what life would be like if you said a "Yes" to every opportunity that came on your way? It's true that you would be opening yourself to all kinds of new adventures and experiences but trust me you would also be totally over-committing yourself. I don't believe that I am making this statement because saying a "No" to anything is just not my persona. Yes! I am the kinds who would always be up for anything & everything, be it a work task or planning a random getaway or even doing something which I would never do for someone's happiness. But over a past few months I have started realising that there's a practice of saying a "NO", to make a firm decision and create boundaries. Decisions can be liberating or paralyzing. They are liberating if we relish in the freedom we have when it comes to choosing everything from our outfit to our job to our thoughts. But they are paralyzing if we hang out way to long going back and forth between options. The balance lies between your head and your heart. Our head may be telling us one thing while our heart is nudging us towards another. We are all blessed with both analytical thought and intuitive feelings, which are both useful when it comes to making a choice. You may be thinking that I would encourage making a heart-based over head-based decision. And yes, most of the time that is what I would encourage but sometimes, we have to let our head speak a little louder. It’s easy to see why the heart—our emotional, intuitive side—is almost always cast as the villain when it comes to decision-making. Despite our best efforts to be logical and stay cool, our hearts can lead us astray. Your heart is incredibly wise; however, sometimes what feels like inner knowing is actually an emotional response that could be colouring your better judgment. When our emotions take over in decision-making, we do not think as clearly. Of course you do not want the pro/con lists your head makes to silence the wisdom of your heart, which is why it is important to differentiate between what is truly your intuition versus emotional attachment to something to reach your happy place :)

I do not remember the last time I put up an outfit post. Do you? Phew! Life I tell you. These past few months went by so fast that it just didn’t leave space for me to play dress up! But anyways, better late than never, though, never late is better. A couple of days back I went for a nice brunch with my girlfriends. Now, we are always looking for excuses to dress up and I certainly wouldn’t leave this occasion. I wanted a look which is in between casual and dressy so out came my favourite princess floral maxi skirt which I paired up with this blue camisole  and my mum's black bag which I was eyeing to steal for a day.

So finally I would like to conclude this post by saying whatever happens in the end, you cannot make a wrong decision. It may not please everyone, but you’ve made the decision to support your own happiness, right? If it doesn’t work out the way you had intended, change the situation. The outcome has occurred for a reason. What is the lesson? You can’t live in the past so how can you use this experience in the future? Only when you give yourself permission to connect with both your head and your heart, and deciding if your final verdict aligns with your life values, can you come to solution. It’s when we fail to listen to our heart and ignore our natural ability to connect intuitively to what we really desire, that we deny ourselves happiness, love, freedom and growth. Only you are responsible for your life. Lessons you’ve learned from your experiences and choices add up to create a beautiful journey that has no limits or boundaries.

Its All About Fringing

Black Fringed Skirt: Zara; Crop Top;Shoes : Forever21; Sun Glasses: Aldo;

Fringes are all over the runway this year. Fringe is adorning everything. Right from the jackets, to hanging off the hemlines of pencil skirts (just like the one I am wearing in this post), it's showing up as a print-like embellishment on sweaters, and it's completely covering dresses.

 Though fringes might seem like a trickier trend to pull off, it works really well on clothing as well as on accessories like handbags and shoes. No matter how pretty they look, in real life fringes can be tricky to pull off. Too much can look like a costume, and too thick can look a bit too boho. So if you don’t do it right it can look a little vague!

I personally take a cue from street style and incorporate it into my wardrobe in the form of a pencil skirt that playfully reveals some skin from the knees down or throw them up causally under my kimono pairing it up with a comfortable camisole and shorts to create that perfect ootd. Fringe-accented tops and accessories are also easy to wear with basic pants.

I would love to see how you guys are keeping up to this prevailing trend. Tag me on Instagram and show me your fringes.
